Exploration in the house celebrates success in showcasing NSW geoscience advancements

The department is pleased to announce the success of Exploration in the House – new data, new exploration futures, held at the NSW Parliament House on Friday, May 10, 2024.

The annual event, a cornerstone of NSW Minerals Week, brought together 116 industry experts, and researchers to explore the latest advancements in geoscience and geophysical data.

Hosted by the Geological Survey of NSW, the event highlighted the pivotal role of innovative exploration strategies in shaping the future of mining in New South Wales.

Keynote speaker, Professor Dietmar Muller from the University of Sydney, engaged attendees with insights into the transformative potential of artificial intelligence-driven data processing in the pursuit of critical minerals. His presentation underscored the collaborative efforts between academia and industry in driving forward-thinking exploration methodologies.

Phillip Blevin, Chief Geoscientist & Head of the Geological Survey of NSW said, “Exploration in the House serves as a platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration, essential for advancing our understanding of NSW’s mineral potential. The participation from our industry and a diverse group of stakeholders reaffirms the importance of geoscience in guiding sustainable resource development.”

Minister for Natural Resources Courtney Houssos also announced the release of the largest suite of geophysical data on Monday 8 May, which helped set the scene for the discussions on the day. Talks from the Geological Survey of NSW highlighted how this data can also be used by industry to assist in the exploration of critical minerals, by helping individual explorers determine where different minerals may be found across the state.

The event marked its return to NSW Parliament House after a successful iteration at the Art Gallery of NSW over the last few years. Through engaging presentations and interactive discussions, Exploration in the House fostered a dynamic environment conducive to exploring new frontiers in mineral exploration.
