How to demonstrate proof of equivalence when applying with overseas qualifications
When applying for a certificate of competence, you must provide evidence that your overseas qualifications meet the requirements outlined in the certificate of competence guide (PDF, 218.04 KB). You may demonstrate proof of equivalence using one of the following methods:
International accords
Provide evidence that your qualification is accredited under an international agreement such as:
- Washington Accord (engineering degree)
- Sydney Accord (engineering technology)
- Dublin Accord (engineering technicians)
Australian assessment
Obtain an assessment of your qualification from:
- An Australian University
- Engineers Australia
To apply via Engineers Australia, apply for a migration skills assessment and follow the 6-step process detailed on their website.
Documentation requirements
Submit to the Resources Regulator:
- Certified copies (PDF, 201.49 KB) of the assessment documentation and course outlines/transcripts for all courses studied.
Non-English documents
Provide a certified English translation from an authorised service (e.g., appropriate embassy or NAATI-accredited professional translation service).
The Resources Regulator will consider the equivalence and recognition of the qualification as part of the application process.
