Exam calendar and application closing dates
To apply to be examined to obtain a certificate of competence and a practising certificate to practise in one or more statutory functions, you will need to:
- complete an online application form via Regulator Portal
- provide evidence of your identity, age, portfolio, qualifications, and experience.
If you are able to satisfy these criteria, you may then be eligible to undertake the written and oral exams applicable to the certificate you are applying to obtain.
Application process
1. Be informed and prepare
- Read the Applying for a certificate of competence guide (PDF, 218.04 KB). You must read this guide before completing the application form. Otherwise your application may be incomplete and not satisfy the requirements. You may not be invited to undertake the examinations.
- Review specific requirements for the desired statutory function (PDF, 266.36 KB).
- Gather necessary prerequisites and work samples (PDF, 451.35 KB) that demonstrate qualifications and experience in line with portfolio and competency requirements.
- Subscribe to Mine Safety News to receive upcoming exam information and regulation changes.
- Attend briefing sessions regarding examination process and expectations. Register your interest at least one month before the scheduled briefing session for your function.
- Review the exam calendar and submit your application before the specified closing date.
2. Complete and pay for application
- Apply online via the Regulator Portal.
- Pay application fee (PDF, 82.51 KB) through the portal’s secure third party payment gateway (Humanitix).
- Record payment receipt details in your application.
- Submit certified copies (PDF, 201.49 KB) of all required documents including qualifications, work experience certificates and identification.
- You should use the option to register to sit the exams, which will be accepted, if your application is approved.
- Ensure the application is submitted before the closing date. Allow time for your application to be assessed.
Further information
- Insufficient applications: may be rejected if information supplied is insufficient e.g. experience.
- Non-refundable application fee: if your application is incomplete, unsuccessful or if you withdraw.
- Multiple attempts: payment of the application fee must be made for each attempt to undertake an examination
- Providing additional information: we may ask you for additional information that must be submitted via email by the due date specified.
- Closing date: you cannot apply after the date specified in the exam calendar.
